What I Thought About Communication with The Media – Japan Stratus Technology President Blog Vol.22

When you read this blog, I think our new ztC Edge 200i/250i has been announced. We have taken advantage of this product launch and conducted interviews with several media outlets. Nikkei xTECH, ZDNet, Dempa Shimbun, Yahoo! Have you viewed it in various media such as news and BCN? Although the declaration of a state of emergency has ended, many media outlets have come to the venue as before, and it has not come to hold face-to-face presentations in a group format. It becomes virtual communication using online meeting tools.

In the e-mail magazine in which this blog is introduced, I think that information about new products and articles handled in the media are shared. I will not tell you the details in this blog, but what I wanted to convey from my own standpoint is as follows. The first generation ztC Edge 100i/110i announced in 2018 began with the initial use of POC (Proof of Concept, Proof of Concept testing), and it has been adopted in production machines on single machines, Recently, there have been cases where dozens of units have been introduced. Based on feedback from customers and partners who have experienced POCs and production over the next few years, the second generation has improved its own capabilities and performance, as well as providing operational management tools in a cloud-based, large-scale deployment.

It seems very simple to write this way, but even if it is called the media in general, it has various characteristics and backgrounds, so I will be very careful when actually telling it. For example, media reporters specializing in IT (information technology) and OT at factory sites Media reporters who are mainly dealing with control and operation technology may have different points to explain and deepen their stories. The concept of edge computing is also different from ours, so there are many cases where we start and explain it. We will deepen your understanding of our announcements as much as possible, prepare release statements to make them easier to use as articles, and give you a summary of your announcements. Also, during the interview, first share a separate document explaining the background of the new product launch, product features details, sales strategy, etc., and then ask questions from reporters. Note that the definition of edge computing will be described at the end of this blog, so please check it out.

Thanks to you, looking at the contents of this company, it seems that we understood what we told us roughly accurately. This is the result of the efforts of members of the marketing and business development departments who prepared for the presentation. By all means, I think that you can see the actual contents of the publication if you have a chance.

I’m going to talk a little bit, but I watched a movie around the timing of the product announcement. I participated in a preview of a Japanese movie titled “Blank”. Shinta Furuta is the father of a stubborn fisherman living with his daughter, and Momori Matsuzaka is single and a local supermarket manager. In a certain case, both of them are chased by the mass media, but the content of articles on paper or the handling in news programs becomes intentional on the media side, and actual remarks are cut out and edited and broadcast. If the reporter is injured in an unreasonable way of chasing, it is also how to make a screen that appeals for negligence on the escaped side.

We don’t have that much contact with the media on a daily basis. It is about the time of product announcement and advertisement publication. When there is a point of contact, we will convey information to the media while being aware of the actual readers, so that what we want to convey as much as possible is transmitted straight, but this is not easy at all. It is different from the handling in the case mentioned above, and the media people are generally cooperative, but what part of the published content will be used and which part can be emphasized is different when you look at the published contents.

The world is full of information. In addition to television, newspapers, magazines, and radio, the amount of information people contacted has increased overwhelmingly due to the evolution of Web services such as LINE, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as the spread of smartphones. It is said that the amount has more than 500 times in the past 10 years. On the other hand, there is no significant change in the processing power of individuals after obtaining information. If you don’t get as high-quality information as possible and look multifaceted, you’ll easily drown in a sea of information. I think it has become more and more difficult from the standpoint of providing information as a corporate person and, conversely, from the standpoint of collecting information every day and thinking about connecting it to management decisions.

Finally, I will post the edge computing that Stratus thinks, which I explained in the release at the time of this product announcement. “Edge computing” refers to a distributed computing model in which information is processed not in a data center or cloud, but physically close to where data is generated, such as where people operate or factories where things are produced. As IoT is increasingly being utilized, the amount of data handled by various devices is exploding. Edge computing can be more efficient by processing data where the data is generated. As IoT becomes important in various fields and industries, it can be said that it is ideal to utilize it complementary while taking advantage of the characteristics of both the cloud and the edge.

Is it consistent with what you expected?
